| Meet The Staff | Meet The Actors | Behind the Sceans |
Hi, I am Dylan. A kid that was only in the videos and that the
main AIO Team did not create. But if you take a close look at the audio and video team of
AIO you will see that they put a lot of hard work just to make this all come alive.
So sit back and enjoy a behind the sceans look at the AIO Team.
Meet The Actors:
Gabe Encarnacion
Work On AIO: Voice Actor
Main Character Played: Lawarance Hodges
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Dark Brown
Most Memorable Moment on AIO: "When my real-life mom got to be a part on it.
She is the sales lady on Aloha Oy which Mrs. Rathbone is trying to get a deal from. It was
fun to have her just do an impromptu bit in the middle of the recording. Totally
cool."
Short Bio: I was born at a very young age (ha ha ha!) on Feb. 18, 1981
in Manila, Philippines. My family moved to the United States in 1984
and I've lived in Anaheim, CA practically my entire life. I attended
Troy High School in Fullerton and am currently attending California
Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo as a business finance major.
Trivia:
- His driver's license says his hair color is black, although it is dark brown.
Favorite Movie: The Matrix
Favorite Book(s): Bible, The Brothers Karamazov and Jurassic Park.
Favorite Ice Cream: Coffee Ice Cream with Heath bar bits.
Favorite Food: Italian, Mexican, and Chinese
Favorite Pet: Hamster, Three-legged guineapig
Interview:
UAIO: How did it all start for you acting out the character "Lawrence
Hodges" on Adventures in Odyssey?
GE: My career with AIO started when I was about 8 years old. I had been
a huge fan of the show for quite a while and Focus on the Family was
still in Pomona (about 30 minutes north of where I live). I was curious
about how they chose their actors and I asked some friends of my parents
who worked for Focus (who were not associated with AIO). They found out
that there was an audition and I went over there with my parents. I
read a quick script with Phil Lollar and filled out an application, just
like a "real" job. I didn't hear from them until almost two years later
and they called me to do a recording in L.A. I guess it went well
because they called me back to do several more episodes. The rest, as
they say, is history.
UAIO: Did you ever hear of Adventures in Odyssey before your work on it?
GE: I totally knew of AIO when I went to work for them. I never really
watched Saturday morning cartoons when I was younger because I always
was glued to my radio listening to AIO.
UAIO: Are you anything like the character Lawrence Hodges?
GE: As far as my imagination goes, I am totally like Lawrence. I love
doing anything creative like playing the guitar or writing. However, I
don't think I get into quite as much trouble as Lawrence does :)
UAIO: Who is your favorite Character on Odyssey? Besides the
wonderful Lawrence.
GE: I always thought Connie Kendall was pretty cool because I heard her
character mature throughout the years of the show. It was great because
she was always so eager to learn about God and she'd always listen
attentively to Whit. Stuff like that.
UAIO: How was it like coming back in the recording session for this
Fall season?
GE: It was weird. First of all, it was the first time I had been in a
recording studio since I stopped doing the show like 5 or 6 years ago.
It's like a whole new world in there with all the mics and stuff. It
was also interesting to no longer be one of the "kids" in the group. I
was so used to being the youngest one in the studio when I was Lawrence,
but this summer, I was one of the adults. Strange.
UAIO: Would you like to be a brand new main character on Odyssey.
If so, what would you want the character to be like, what would you want the name to be?
GE: It would be cool to be on the show again because I loved working with
the AIO staff. As far as a name, I don't know what it would be. I
remember when I first saw the script for "Wonderworld", which was my first
episode, and thinking to myself "Lawrence Hodges? What a goofy name for
a kid!" I really don't know.
UAIO: In our interviews, we will always ask favorite type questions. Such
as, what is your favorite movie? What is your favorite type of food, etc. List some
of your favorites.
GE: Favorites?
Movie: The Matrix
Book: Other than the Bible, it has to be The Brothers Karamazov and
Jurassic Park.
Ice Cream: If you ever get a chance to go to Coldstone Creamery, get
coffee ice cream with Heath bar bits.
Food: It's a tie between Italian, Mexican, and Chinese
Pet: a hamster I had named Nibbles and my brother's three-legged guinea
pig named Little Girl, don't ask. (Smiles)
UAIO: One question we have to ask, is if you really like Ice Cream? If
so, what flavor?
GE: Ok, I am an ice cream FIEND! I totally love coffee ice cream with
heath. However, last year when I was living in the dorms at my college,
I made this ice cream dessert which was just a sugar bomb (I have a
pretty bad sweet tooth). It was a rice krispie treat covered in vanilla
ice cream with frosted flakes and caramel on top. It was so sweet that
I ate an eclair afterwards and it didn't even taste like anything
because my taste buds were just shot. Never again.
UAIO: Do you still tune in to Odyssey today, and pick up and buy
some of the albums?
GE: I have not really tuned in to Odyssey in a while, but once in a
while, I'll be in a Christian bookstore, I'll see a tape of one of my
episodes for sale and I'll pick it up or something. I recently gave one
to my pastor's wife because she likes listening to them.
UAIO: Thank you for such a wonderful interview, one of the best.
We can only conclude that you are to cool.
Alson in January of 2001, you will be nominated in the some awards hosted here, for
"Best Young Actor Performance" and also be nominated as "Most Favorite
Young Character".
Stay tuned.
